What I get to do now: Nice Clothes!

There are a lot of benefits to losing 120 pounds. My overall health is much better. I almost never wake up in the middle of the night with indigestion anymore. I almost never have arthritis pain in my ankles anymore. I almost never have back pain or abdominal discomfort anymore. I don't get out of breath climbing stairs anymore. I don't get drenched in perspiration during a busy day at work when buzzing around at one of my weddings anymore. All of these improvements to my life are fantastic, but there is something else that is the icing on the cake (not that I ever eat cake or icing anymore), an that's getting to wear nice clothes! When you are a man at 305 lbs, shopping for clothing is not a pleasant experience. I could not just walk into a department store or men's store and shop. I had to shop in "big & tall" sections of stores, which was always a mixture of depressing and humiliating. Now that I have been at my goal weight for several weeks, I have had the joy of replacing my entire wardrobe. The only garments that I have been able to keep are socks and ties. Everything else has had to be replaced, or in the case of shoes, I chose to treat myself to nicer new shoes to go along with all the new clothes.

I've spent a lot of time with my tailors at Stitch-It in Nashville this summer with multiple fittings, having lots of new pants hemmed and waistlines taken in to accommodate all the weight loss. I have to say, there's nothing quite so rewarding as going from a 46 waist all the way down to a 36 waist, and then even those are too big! I owe a big thank you to the owner of Stitch-It, Jeffery Loring and his team including Casey Dowel, Wouter Smit and Corey Caldwell for taking such good care of all my alterations, even including some repairs to my ministerial robe this summer. For those of you who are hoping to do what I have done an lose a lot of weight, not only will your physical health improve, but your mental and emotional health will get a great boost when you look in the fitting room mirror at your favorite stores and you get to look good in your new clothes!
